Citrus

This week I celebrated my one-year anniversary at my job, so to celebrate, my boss and I went to Citrus in downtown Orlando for lunch. The atmosphere and service were both great. My boss ordered the steak sandwich, and I ordered the fish sandwich.

I loved my fish sandwich. It featured blackened grouper and was topped with shrimp on Cuban bread. It also came with a citrus cole slaw, which was also very tasty and refreshing.

Before your meal, they bring out warm bread with citrus butter. There’s nothing like warm bread and butter.

After work, I headed out to World of Beer on Sand Lake to meet up with Kevin, some of our friends, and  friends of friends. I’m not a huge beer drinker, so I sipped on cabernet sauvignon all night. The group ordered pizza to be delivered there, but I wasn’t feeling pizza, so I opted to grab a vegetarian bowl from Chipotle, which is next door. I think the wine really classes up the meal.

It was a nice end to the workweek, and I had a great time meeting new friends and catching up with everyone.

Do you prefer beer or wine? I don’t drink very much or very often, so I find it easier and more enjoyable to drink wine. I’m not sure how I got there though because in college I remember preferring beer and never thinking I would enjoy the taste of wine, especially reds.

Eating in: chicken kabobs

At the beginning of summer, Kevin purchased a new grill, which just screams summertime cooking. The other night we grilled chicken kabobs.

I soaked the skewers, marinated the chicken in a teriyaki and citrus sauce, and prepped the vegetables.

The grilled pineapple was delicious. The grill causes the sugars in the pineapple to caramelize and makes it incredibly sweet. I was obsessed.

Last night we went to World of Beer and I tried the Sea Dog Blue Paw Wheat Ale. It is served with fresh blueberries floating around, and it is the perfect summer beer. It was light and crisp.

Happy Saturday! Today I am off to a baby shower and tomorrow I’m be spending the day with my family for Father’s Day. It’s a busy weekend, but I’m looking forward to celebrating so many different things.

What’s your favorite summertime dish?

Amura

Friday was a very special day because it was Kevin’s oldest brother’s birthday! Happy birthday Nick!

Nick and I share a love for sushi, so of course I was excited at the opportunity to go out for sushi despite the fact that we were at Dragonfly the night before. Sushi two nights in a row is how I should live my life more often.

To change it up, we went to Amura on Sand Lake. I started out by sipping on a berry martini, which tasted a lot like red Hawaiian punch. I was in the mood for something sweet, and this did not disappoint.

We started out with the honey beef short ribs and lettuce wraps. The honey beef short ribs were amazing. The sauce was sweet and coated the ribs nicely. The lettuce wraps had a nice crunch.

For our main entrees, Kevin ordered the yakisoba noodles, which were tossed in a brown stir fry sauce with chicken and vegetables. I snuck multiple bites. The noodles were cooked perfectly and were just thick enough to hold up to the sauce.

Nick, our friend Bryan and I shared an assortment of sushi rolls. We ordered the Rolls Roys roll, which I fell in love with during my first visit to Amura back when it first opened in Sanford. The downtown location doesn’t serve this roll, so I try to make a point to order it whenever I can. It has kani, escolar, tempura crunch and masago stacked in square towers with no seaweed. Its mixed and topped with a sweet sauce, and it just melts in your mouth.

We also order the California roll with real crab meat, a shrimp tempura roll and the Ginseng Stamina roll, which was a spicy tuna roll with salmon and cream cheese.

Although Amura is a little pricey, as are most of the sushi restaurants in that area, each roll does have a good amount pieces, so you always leave full.

After dinner, we topped off the evening by heading across the street to World of Beer to continue Nick’s birthday celebration.
