Run and Won

Il Pescatore is a neighborhood Italian restaurant near us that people often talk about. We headed over for a quick weeknight dinner. Their menu is pretty vast and has typical Italian dishes.

Regardless of the Italian restaurant, Kevin has a tendency to gravitate toward pepperoni pizza. The pizza looked very greasy, but he said it was decent.

My meal started with a side house salad with their house dressing, raspberry vinaigrette.

For my main course, I ordered vitello alla scaloppine, veal medallions sautéed with mushrooms in a white wine sauce, which came with a side of spaghetti.

The veal was good. The meat was tender, and the sauce had a lot of flavor from the mushrooms. I was actually disappointed in the spaghetti sauce. It tasted just like typical jarred sauce that was lacking seasonings and herbs.

All in all, I’d say our meal was fairly average, but I’m willing to give it another shot since I have heard that people really seem to like Il Pescatore.

Last weekend was full of small victories. On Saturday, UF had its homecoming game. Piece of cake right? We played the University of Louisiana-Lafayette (I know, who?), and it ended up being the closest game of our season. We literally won in the last two seconds of the game. In the middle of the game, I finally had to get up in the middle of the game to blow off some steam on the treadmill. I channeled my aggression to my run, and it worked. I had a great run and the Gators won!

Later that day, Kevin and I headed to my first Orlando Solar Bears game. They are our professional hockey team, and this is their first season back after a hiatus. We got really good seats right up close to the action.

When I lived in Indiana, we used to go to hockey games fairly often, but I haven’t been since I was young. Not much seems to have changed, including the numerous fights. We saw one guy get a broken nose!

We left at the end of the second period (out of three) when the Solar Bears were losing 3 to 0. We must have been bad luck because after we left, they came back and ended up winning 5 to 3. The game was really fun and fast paced. I’m excited to go to more games now that they’re back.

Sporting

After this weekend, I think Kevin and I have reached professional sports viewer status. We had a sports-packed, and incredibly fun, weekend. On Friday, Kevin and I headed to the Orlando Magic game where we had tickets for one of their Founder’s Level suites. One of Kevin’s friends got a group of us to chip in. The view was great.

View

The suite was equipped with two televisions, tables and plenty of different foods and drinks. Both were endless. There were steak fajitas, noodles, salad, wings, meatballs, mac and cheese, flatbread, popcorn, chips, pretzels, cookies, cakes, beer, wine, liquor…I was definitely a happy camper.

Plus, the Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is always a plus.

The sports festivities continued into Saturday, when Kevin and I went to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, an event that we look forward to every year. This would also be our second buffet situation in two days. I’m full again just thinking about it. Kevin’s whole family came out for the event, so it was fun to see everyone and to watch the golfers.

I’m not a huge golf enthusiast, and my astigmatism prevents me from seeing the ball while in motion, but I loved checking out everyone’s outfits and seeing professional golfers up close.

We made it home just in time to catch the Florida Gators basketball game…although, we probably could have done without that spectating event. Despite the Gator loss, it was another great weekend for the books. Today we caught up on errands and I made us Pinterest-inspired cinnamon rolls by molding the ready-to-bake rolls into hearts.

A sweet ending to a fun weekend.

Central Florida Lady Bloggers

Before I forget, I wanted to pass along some info that the lovely Paula sent me. The Central Florida Lady Bloggers is hosting a meet-up this Wednesday at Mucho. Details are here. I will be attending and would love to meet some fellow Orlando-area bloggers!

What is your favorite sport to watch in person? Of course, I’m a sucker for college football.

Hearts and Magic

Happy Valentine’s Day! Kevin and I aren’t huge Valentine’s Day celebrators, so we are enjoying a relaxing evening in catching up on the DVR. Last night we did have a fun night out at the Amway Center cheering on the Orlando Magic.

Magic

Thanks to Kevin’s friend who works for the Magic, we got really great tickets in the lower bowl. It was fun to see all the players up close.

The Amway Center is newly constructed, and this is only its second season operating. It’s so nice. Of course, I love that there are plenty of food option.

gyro

I ordered a gyro, which ended up being messier than anticipated, like most of my meals. The seasoning was pretty good, but the meat was a little dry. Overall, it wasn’t the worse concession food I’ve ever had. I also noticed that Amway has carving stations with BBQ options, and they offer veggie burgers. They definitely have a good variety.

The Magic ended up winning. I hadn’t been to a Magic game since last season, so it was fun to see them in action again.

It was the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Eve.
