Final preparations

I’m less than one week away from my first weekend in Gainesville for my MBA program. I’ve been diligently going through my accounting book that I need completed by the start date and tying up all the loose ends that need to be taken care of (i.e. paying a lot of money). One final thing I’ve been procrastinating on is getting something to carry all my class stuff around in. I have no clue what the kids are wearing today. Are shoulder bags in still style? Are backpacks the rage? What about messenger bags?

Last night, Kevin and I hit up the mall to figure out what would make sense for me to carry all my books and my laptop around campus in. Finally, we landed on Lululemon’s Take Me With You Tote in black and mint. It’s actually a gym bag with laptop and tablet compartments. It can carry up to 50 pounds and has two strap types.

It’s huge…almost too big, but I think it will be perfect for throwing everything I need into it. It comes with an inner bag for dirty gym clothes or shoes, plenty of compartments and I love the color I settled on. I’m excited to wear it around campus!

Burger 21

While on our mall journey, we ventured to Burger 21, one of Orlando’s newest quick-service burger joints. They have a huge menu of different types of burgers and toppings combinations, and they have a dipping sauce bar, featuring many unique condiments.  Some of their unique sauces included toasted marshmallow, apple cider, ragin’ Cajun and Thai ketchup. They also have a black bean burger, chicken burgers and seafood burgers.

Burger 21-Sauces

I ordered The ‘Shroom, a burger topped with crimini mushrooms, fontina cheese and veggies on a brioche bun.

To accompany, I ordered sweet potato fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and tasted like high-quality beef. I loved the sweet buttery bread and all the flavorful mushrooms. My favorite types of fries are shoestring cut, so it was so nice to get sweet potato fries in that format. I actually preferred them without all the exotic sauces. The sauces were very unique, but a little too out there for me. I preferred the flavor of the sweet potato fries on their own. Overall, I was really pleased with my meal.

Kevin ordered chicken fingers and normal fries. His fries were really delicious too.

I was eying some of the ice cream and milk shakes others ordered. I was too full for dessert, but they looked really elaborate and tasty. I would definitely return to Burger 21 for a good burger and exceptional fries.

What did you use for your books when you were in school? In high school, I was  a big fan of the messenger bag, and then in college, like every other girl in the south, I had my Vera Bradley tote.

Greens & Grille

I always love catching up with my friend Erica and this past time was no exception. We met up after work for dinner and ended up chatting and snacking for three and a half hours. Of course, it still wasn’t long enough.

We met up at Greens & Grille, a restaurant with two locations, both in Orlando. We met up at the location by the Mall at Millenia, and the second one is near UCF.  They serve up fresh salads, soups and sandwiches. You can order off their premade, signature menu, or you can pick your own ingredients to build your own creation. All of the protein is thrown on the grill prior to being placed on your salad or in your sandwich. Erica and I both ordered salads from the signature menu.

Greens & Grille Salad

I ordered a cobb salad with grilled shrimp.

Their prices do run a little high for salads (about $10), but they’re huge, and everything is very high quality. I don’t know why, but ordering salads out always tastes better than when I make them at home.

After gabbing for awhile at Greens & Grille, we headed around the corner to Tutti Frutti for some froyo. They offer soy bean froyo, but I stuck with the normal variety. The soy bean based froyo boasts being fat free, gluten free, has no artificial sweeteners, and has more protein.

Tutti Frutti froyo

I got a  swirl of pineapple and coconut for a pina colada flavor and topped it with chocolate chips, kiwi, blueberries and a plop of whipped cream. I love mixing chocolate and fruity flavors.

It was a sweet ending to a fun time!

Do you prefer sweet or tart froyo flavors? I usually go for the tart, fruity flavors.

Elephant Bar

Last night I met up with my good friend (and former coworker *sniff*) Erica to catch up over dinner at Elephant Bar by the Mall at Millenia. I have been to Elephant Bar a few times and have always been happy with my entrées, but I think I may have either mis-ordered this time or they were having an off night.

Erica ordered the grilled chicken with pesto served with brown rice and vegetables, which she really enjoyed. She said that the chicken was very tender and the pesto sauce was delicious as well.

I ordered the crispy chicken teriyaki, which was one of their signature dishes. It came with Asian vegetables and a side of brown rice.

The sauce was very good, and I mixed all of my rice with it. The chicken, however, was overcooked. The “crispiness” ended up being too hard and the chicken on the inside was dry.

The disappointing chicken just gave me an excuse to order dessert. I settled on the crème brulee, which was delicious. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and very savory.

Erica has a beach trip planned for a couple of weeks from now so she was being good about dessert and asked the waitress if they offered a fruit plate. They did not, but the waitress gathered all of the fruit from the bar for her instead. Now that’s service! I think the fruit plate makes up for the dry chicken earlier.

Kevin and I just got back from a great gym workout. Today was abs day for me mixed with some cardio, and I’m trying out a new, made-up recipe, which if all goes well, I’ll be sharing with you later this week. I’m going to start writing more about my workouts in addition to the restaurant reviews and recipes I’m making to help keep myself accountable. I’m in no way a “health blogger” as you can tell by my food consumption but I do need to make sure I’m working out regularly in order to be able to fully enjoy my meals.

What do you do to help keep yourself accountable for workouts and eating?
