Rolling toward the weekend

I’ve just been dragging these past couple of days. I felt really energized and proud of myself after run club on Wednesday evening, but even though I doubled up on the workouts that day, I decided to wake up at 5 a.m. on Thursday to maintain my normal morning workout schedule. My legs were crying from my new distance PR from the night before, so I stuck to strength training, but throughout my workout, I felt pretty sluggish. Still, it’s better than nothing.

My sore body was dragging all day, but I persevered and made it to happy hour with the girls on Thursday evening at Isleworth Country Club. My friend Katie gets a bunch of us together every so often to network over drinks and appetizers. We’ve only gotten the group together once before, so I was excited to see everyone again. We started out with wine tasting, graduated to martinis and snacked all evening long.

The food

The homes in Isleworth are so beautiful and I always imagine what it’d be like to live in such huge mansions. I even got lawn envy. It hasn’t rained in so long, but all the landscaping was immaculate.

The food was delicious, but the company was better. It was great to catch up with everyone.

I didn’t get home from happy “hour” until after 9:30, so today I’ve been pretty sleepy as well. I’m definitely welcoming in this weekend. However, I need to perk myself up for tonight because I have plans to see Chris Hemsworth…I mean, The Avengers.

I’m usually not a fan of super hero movies, but I actually really enjoyed the movies leading up to The Avengers, and I’ve been excited for it to come out all year.

So I just need to stay awake through the movie and then I’m sleeping the rest of the weekend.

Citrus

This week I celebrated my one-year anniversary at my job, so to celebrate, my boss and I went to Citrus in downtown Orlando for lunch. The atmosphere and service were both great. My boss ordered the steak sandwich, and I ordered the fish sandwich.

I loved my fish sandwich. It featured blackened grouper and was topped with shrimp on Cuban bread. It also came with a citrus cole slaw, which was also very tasty and refreshing.

Before your meal, they bring out warm bread with citrus butter. There’s nothing like warm bread and butter.

After work, I headed out to World of Beer on Sand Lake to meet up with Kevin, some of our friends, and  friends of friends. I’m not a huge beer drinker, so I sipped on cabernet sauvignon all night. The group ordered pizza to be delivered there, but I wasn’t feeling pizza, so I opted to grab a vegetarian bowl from Chipotle, which is next door. I think the wine really classes up the meal.

It was a nice end to the workweek, and I had a great time meeting new friends and catching up with everyone.

Do you prefer beer or wine? I don’t drink very much or very often, so I find it easier and more enjoyable to drink wine. I’m not sure how I got there though because in college I remember preferring beer and never thinking I would enjoy the taste of wine, especially reds.

Happy hour at Isleworth

Thursday evening after work I had a great opportunity to meet up with a bunch of girls at the club house of Isleworth Country Club. My friend Katie organized the event to bring together us girls who are all in similar industries to chat over appetizers and drinks. It was a great event, and I met some wonderful people.

I sipped on red wine while feasting on a variety of delicious food, which seemed never-ending. Katie did a great job picking the menu.

We also got to celebrate one of the girl’s birthdays!

I had an amazing time snacking and chatting, and I can’t wait for our next get-together.

Weekly Workout Summary

My arms are incredibly exhausted. I’m not used to doing as much weight training, but I’m pleased with the progress I’m seeing. I really miss running outside, but the Orlando heat has been confining me to the treadmill.

Did you meet your week’s fitness goals?

Happy it’s-not-the-end-of-the-weekend-yet Sunday! I’m taking full advantage of this three day weekend. Happy Fourth of July!

Happy hour at Ceviche

I told you I’d be back. Now that didn’t take long, did it?

It was a bittersweet meal as today was Erica’s last day at work since she is starting the next step in her career with a great opportunity. I am so proud of her, but I will definitely miss seeing her every day at work.

Ceviche was a great choice for happy hour since they had $3 sangria. I opted for the red wine-based sangria and Erica got white.

Of course, we also feasted. Their dinner menu is even larger than their lunch menu, which is hard to believe. We ordered tapas portions of fried potatoes covered in a slightly spicy aioli, meatballs made with veal, chorizo and pork, and croquetas, which are chicken and ham combined with a béchamel sauce and deep fried. Everything was delicious, and we were stuffed after just eating those three tapas. Of course, we also went through two loaves of bread and two orders of the pesto dipping sauce.

Everything was amazing. The potatoes were like home fries but with much more flavor with the thick coating of sauce. We didn’t even order the croquetas off the menu. We saw the waitress bring an order to another table, and we had to have them. They tasted just as delicious as they looked.

Pine Twenty2 and Relax Grill

Yesterday Erica and I went to Pine Twenty2 for lunch. We’ve both been there before, and it’s been a popular lunch choice since it opened a few months ago. It can get pretty crowded during the work-week lunch hours.

Pine Twenty2, located on 22 Pine Street, is great because you can customize your own burger. You choose the meat used, bread, cheese, sauces and toppings. There are so many different options and possible combinations that it’s difficult not to go back. My problem is that I tend to go overboard on toppings, which results in a giant, messy burger. They have also some preselected combinations for those who want to leave the decision-making to the expert.

I’ve had their Angus burgers, which are delicious and juicy, but on Friday I wanted to try something different. I decided to try their black bean burger on a herb foccacia bun with goat cheese, basil pesto, charred onions and avocados. I also got a side of hush puppies.

Erica ordered the Grilled Three Cheese from their premade options. It consisted of fontina, herb goat cheese and gruyere on Texas Toast and came with a side of sweet potato fries.

As usual, both of us were extremely happy with our decisions. The black bean burger was well seasoned with herbs and onions, although I would recommend milder toppings since the taste isn’t as strong as a beef burger. The hush puppies stole the show. They were delicious and slightly sweet with bits of onions cooked in them.

Last night Kevin and I met up with friends at Relax Grill on Lake Eola. Relax is a completely outdoor restaurant right on the lake. We often walk by it when we’re walking around the lake and have wanted to try it for quite some time. The menu is pretty basic consisting of your typical American fare: burgers, sandwiches, fried food. Before 8 p.m. on Fridays is happy hour and you can opt to pay $10 for all you can drink beer or wine. They also have warm pita, hummus and tzatziki at the bar that you can help yourself to.

Although the atmosphere is amazing, especially now before it’s too hot outside in Orlando, the food just fell short. The service wasn’t very good. To get drinks, you walk yourself to the bar and bring it back yourself. I ordered a grouper sandwich, and the fish was dry and stiff as opposed to flaky and moist. It came with a salad, which was the best part of the meal as it consisted of lettuce, onions, feta and other veggies with balsamic vinaigrette. Kevin ordered chicken fingers and fries, and his chicken was also extremely dried out and the breading tasted burnt. I think it was in the fryer too long. The fries were under seasoned and lacked any crunch. Even the free hummus didn’t have much taste. It was very bland.

Relax is great for the atmosphere and if you want to just grab drinks as long as you don’t mind lack of service, but I would opt for a different dining choice in the future.
