Beefy King

Beefy King is one of those places people always talk about, and I can’t believe it’s taken so long for me to get over there. They have off hours, so it’s best to go at lunchtime, which I did with a few coworkers. They are closed on Sundays. The restaurant closes at 3 p.m. the rest of the days of the week, but the drive-through stays open until 5:30.

They’ve been open for almost 50 years, and when you look at the restaurant, it doesn’t look like much has changed. Their menu is pretty simple featuring different steamed sandwiches.

As soon as the lady at the register told me they’re famous for their roast beef sandwiches, I knew that was what I would be ordering.

Their sandwiches come with tater tots, which is a huge bonus. They’re such a nice change of pace from fries. I got my roast beef sandwich loaded with all of the extras: cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and onions. They have bottles of horseradish, bbq and hot bbq sauces for dressing your sandwich. I put some horsey sauce on top for a little kick. The sandwich was was nice and warm, and all the flavors melded together nicely. The roast beef tasted really fresh. It’s like a far better version of Arbys.

My boss always orders the smoked turkey deluxe, which also has cheese, tomatoes and cole slaw.

Cole slaw on a sandwich sounds pretty fantastic.

Their sandwiches are a pretty decent size, and they really hit the spot, especially on a rainy day like when we were there. If only they were open later. This would make for a great late-night meal. I love to support family-owned businesses in the area, especially ones that have been around as long as Beefy King.

French fries or tater tots?

  1. Tator Tots all the way, especially if the oil is clean. Nothing ruins tator tots more than bad oil taste. I wish more restaurants served tator tots. We have a chain place near here that serves tator tots with gravy, its like heaven.

  2. I’ve never even heard of that place. But if it’s down near Bumby, I think the Korean Taco Box truck might intercept before I could ever get there. I’ll have to tell Fabian about it because he loves roast beef sandwiches. And loves tater tots probably more than me. But they said no when he proposed, so he got second best. Me.

  3. Can you believe I have NEVER EVER been there?? With the amount of time I spent at that Barnes & Noble right there in high school (and how much I LOVED fast food in high school) this completely shocks me!! I see it all the time and think – man, I really need to go! I still need to go. Maybe with Paula. Ha ha.

I am definitely a tater tot kinda girl. Although my true love is waffles fries. Sweet, sweet waffle fries.

  4. I love tater tots. It’s something about the crispy outside and the potato inside. Yummy :)

  5. Tater tots, all the way. Sweet potato tater tots if you want to get really epic :)

  6. I’ve never heard of Beefy King before!
    I prefer french fries. :)

  7. Looks delicious! Tater tots are one of my favorite fast food treats at Mexican restaurants. I can’t get enough! Mmm.

  8. I loooooove horseradish sauce!

  9. Haha once I was forced to drive around Orlando with my former boss’s brother to deliver invitations (dont ask..) and he made it a point to stop at Beefy King EACH and every day that we were out. I actually couldn’t eat anything because of my wheat allergy (boooo), but he literally loved it so much that he refused all other options hahaha
