Turkey Robinson

I love Food Network and Cooking Channel. All through college and when I lived alone, Food Network was constantly on, and I learned a lot of my cooking skills by just watching cooking shows without even trying to replicate the recipes exactly. I would just use the shows as inspirations for meals. A few weeks ago, I had 5 Ingredient Fix on while I was folding clothes and her recipe for Turkey Robinson stuck in my mind.

I decided to give my own spin on it by omitting the beans and using peas instead of spinach. I had read some reviews that it could be a little bland so I heavily seasoned the turkey meat with onion powder as well.

I served the turkey over bowtie pasta. It was a little under seasoned but some grated parmesan on top added the perfect amount of salt. I really liked how light the meal was since the sauce was just chicken broth, and none of the flavors overpowered the rest. Ground beef would have been too heavy and overpowering.

Kevin doesn’t like turkey nearly as much as chicken or beef, but I think he’s warming up to it.

Parko went to daycare today to get some socialization where he got a bath. After Parko is bathed, they always put him in a bandana, and it just warms my heart.

Parko

Kevin hates when they put the bandana on him because he feels like it emasculates him, but he lets Parko keep it on for a few hours to humor me. I love the bandana!

Do you ever cook with ground turkey? What’s your favorite cooking show?

  1. I loveeee ground turkey. I had a recipe for awesome turkey burgers with sage and cranberry in them that tasted just like a turkey dinner. I usually make chili, sloppy joe mix, etc. with turkey. love turkey sausage and bacon as well! Turkey also happens to be my favourite meat ever hahah

My favourite cooking show right now is Top Chef, though it’s also Chopped, or Tyler’s Ultimate, or Iron Chef America.

We had cable when I was in high school so I watched Food Network ALLLL OF THE TIME. Don’t have it anymore though :(

  2. I love watching the Food Network. I watch it religiously also! :) My favorite shows are Restaurant Impossible, Chopped, Next Iron Chef, Giada at Home, Paula’s Best Dishes, Dessert First, Sandra’s Money Saving Meals, Pioneer Woman, etc. I could literally go on forever.

I am a fan of ground turkey. My fiance doesn’t really care for it though which is frustrating when I’m trying to make a recipe healthy. I don’t like eating beef all that often.

  3. The bandana COULD be a bow. So, Kevin should know it could be worse. :-)
I am one of those people that don’t watch ANY cooking shows. Unless you count Hell’s Kitchen and MasterChef. But those are more reality shows. I’d rather have someone show me how to cook in person, so when I watch those shows I forget everything.
Yesterday, I cooked a piece of chicken on the foreman grill that was waaaay too big for it. My hubs is like…why didn’t you put that in the oven? Ugh. See? I can’t think of these things.

  4. The food network is so addicting! I love watching it on the treadmill…such an oxymoron, heh!

  5. Your meal looks good! I have only used ground turkey to make turkey burger and they are really good! :)

  6. I’m addicted to Top Chef…absolutely addicted! Love love love it. Just wish they’d do a vegan chef-off… ;)

  7. Haha, I say keep the bandana on! My dog at home used to get those after his baths too and I thought it made him look very handsome :-)

  8. My favorite cooking show is Jamie Oliver’s, he has a garden he picks his produce in & cooks it right away. That’s swoon-worthy television! :)

  9. I have to admit, the bandanna totally ups the cute factor for me too :-)

  10. I tend to use ground chicken over ground turkey and have found it to be a fine substitution every time. I just don’t enjoy the ground turkey as much for some reason!

Tell Kevin that bandanas are AMAZING!!!!

  12. Sounds like a yummy, quick meal. What was that bread you had on the side? It looks so yummy!
I learned a lot of my cooking skills from the Food Network, too!

  13. I love when McKinley gets bandanas after groomings and whatnot, but I hate when they put a girly color on him lol.

  14. I definitely cook with ground turkey – chilis, meat sauce, and turkey tacos!!

I love the Food Network classics – Ina, Giada, Sandra Lee, Paula, Bobby Flay – so many good ones :)
