Brian’s Restaurant

Brian’s Restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall diner in Ivanhoe Village that Kevin and I used to always go to for weekend breakfasts. However, they recently shut down for a few months to undergo renovations, and we were eager to try it upon its return.

Brian’s is one of my favorite breakfast places in Orlando, but to be honest I’m not really sure why. They have a really big menu and everything always tasted good, but their biscuits are always too dry and I always felt like the place was really dirty. Yet, we kept going back, so I guess they were doing something right.

The new Brian’s looked pretty much the same on the inside but definitely cleaner. Their menu changed slightly but nothing major. Brian’s is known for their cinnamon rolls, and we ordered a basket for the table.

These are an old reliable. They were just as delicious as I remember. The sugar on the edges caramelize and get crunchy like hard candy.

For breakfast, I ordered the smoked salmon and eggs.

Their food doesn’t come out the prettiest, but it was good. The biscuit was still dried out, and the butter surrounding the grits prevented me from eating more than a couple bites, but the salmon and eggs were really delicious. I got to eat smoked salmon, so I consider my meal a success.

The rest of the table ordered typical breakfast fare.

French toast

pancakes

oatmeal

It was really fun to all get together over breakfast. We went with Kevin’s brother’s family and our next door neighbor who is a new mommy. Kevin’s nephew, who is 15 months, was so sweet with the newborn Audrie.

Even sweeter than the cinnamon rolls.

Do you like dive restaurants? I definitely like to discover holes in the wall, but I have to do a silverware check. I need to make sure the silverware is clean or I get a little freaked out.

  1. Would you kill me if I told you the only restaurant I’ve ever eaten breakfast at in Orlando was First Watch? I’ve gotta branch out!

  2. Interesting.. I have people asking for an alternate breakfast spot that’s not too busy but I never know where to send them besides the popular ones. I would try this place myself before recommending. I would also totally tear up those grits with that butter! lol. thanks for sharing

  3. That cinnamon roll looks delicious. I do like some dive restaurants. I am like you though, I always have to inspect the silverware.

  4. I love hole-in-the-wall type places. They usually have the best food. Some of the best wings I’ve ever had was at Will’s Pub and I had to be convinced to eat them. Not the type of place I’d want to order food.
I could not order a basket of cinnamon rolls for the table without going to town. I don’t know how you do it, girl.

  5. Ooh, I’ve never heard of that one, but those cinnamon rolls sure look legendary! I’ll add that to the list of places to check out!

  6. Mmmm I love eating breakfast out. I rarely do it, so the few times I do, it feels like such a treat! For the most part I like dive restaurants, as long as they’re clean.

  7. I love that picture where the older boys is touching the baby’s head :-)
My husband and I love diners, which tend to be seedy, so I guess we do go to “dive” places :-)

  8. I love trying new dives. They always seem to be better than the fancy schmancy places. I think I like the more relaxed atmosphere too. Those cinnamon rolls look delish!

  9. My favorite breakfast joint back home is a total dive – the food isn’t pretty or healthy, but it’s good!

  10. My brothers love to try dive restaurants… they seem to be a hit or miss for us! I would have ordered something similar to what you did… the smoked salmon is a favorite of mine :)

  11. I totally love dive restaurants. Usually they have the absolute best food (and this looks like the case at this place too!)

  12. Silverware check! I do that too:)

  13. Oh my gosh yummmm. Look at those pancakes! I love dives! I’m for long island so there were dives on every corner.

  14. I love cinnamon rolls…yours look delicious!

  15. I love dives! I’m going to Orlando this weekend, i think i might have to try Brians ;) I usually go to White Wolf when I’m up there.

  16. I’m a huge breakfast lover and that french toast looks ridiculously good- and those cinnamon rolls- oh em gee!

  17. Dive restaurants are my favorite! I’d totally rather do dive than fancy most the time:)
