Orlando City Awards Banquet

On Saturday evening we all got dressed up at headed to the Rosen Plaza for the inaugural awards banquet for the Orlando City Lions. Yes, Orlando has a professional soccer team. This was their first season in Orlando, and they won the regular season and are now in the playoffs.

The games are really fun, and it’s great to see the community show up for their games. This is Kevin’s nephew Riley hanging out on the field after their last game.

The awards ceremony was attended by fans, players, dancers, coaches and community partners.

I have to admit that I was expecting indiscernible banquet food, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Rosen Plaza did a really good job with the food.

We started off with a summer salad topped with orange and strawberry slices.

The main course was chicken marsala served over orzo with julienned veggies on the side.

The sauce was really good, and the spinach and mozzarella on top of the chicken added a nice touch. The vegetables were a little bland on their own but tasted great with the sauce.

For dessert we had our choice between key lime pie or chocolate cake.

Both were really good but really sweet. I only had a couple of bites before I hit my sugar limit.

It was a really fun event, but the best part was seeing the players and coaches of the Orlando City Lions get rewarded for a great season. Good luck in the playoffs!

  1. Aw you two look so cute! I love watching basketball–and tennis! I’m a little ashamed to say it, but I just don’t completely get football. I know–shameful. :)

  2. How fun!! I’m really not a soccer fan. I just can’t get into it!

We *almost* had our wedding reception at Rosen Plaza. Actually it was booked there and they overbooked so we got moved to the Rosen Centre. They really do have great “banquet” style food!! People were especially impressed with the desserts (and probably the alcohol – hee).

  3. Love all the photos! Looks like y’all had a blast! :-D

  4. I love watching baseball. I’m not a huge football fan.

    That’s a great dress!

  5. I didn’t know Orlando had a professional soccer team! That’s awesome! My favorite sport to watch is basketball, but I’m really wanting to get into football this season, I just really need to understand the sport first! lol

  6. Cute dress! I’ve been craving key lime pie lately, and that picture does not help at all! ;)

  7. Cute dress you have there! Mmm key lime pie… I wonder if a dessert could be too sweet for me? My sweet tooth is out of control sometimes :)

  8. Love your dress :)

I totally do not watch sports, ever.
