I am generally open to all new things in terms of culinary endeavors, but up until now I had never had Indian food before. I was never opposed to the idea—it had just never crossed my plate before.
My friend Alia (of Pilates Loft fame) loves Indian food, so she, my friend Ana and I decided to do a girls night out at Memories of India near Sand Lake Road for some authentic Indian food. I was excited.
The waiter was very nice and helped me to understand the different sauces. I really like Thai curries, so he recommended some sweeter dishes that I might enjoy. Alia is also an Indian food expert, so she helped to navigate as well.
To start, we ordered vegetable samosa and aloo papri chat. I have had samosas before (my only experience with Indian food and they were far from authentic), but these were the best I’ve ever had. You can really taste the seasoning, and the spice was mild but complimented the ingredients inside.

The aloo papri chat, which I have never had before, are chips with baked in seasonings, which come with a yogurt dipping sauce. They were very light and delicious, but the heat sneaks up on you!

I love how our main dishes were presented. They placed a big bowl of rice in the center for all of us to share and each of our dishes came in individual serving bowls. I ended up ordering the lamb korma (mild), which was delicious. It tasted like a beef stew but with layers and layers of flavor. It was a sweeter taste and the creamy gravy had almonds, raisins and incredibly tender lamb. It was perfect served over the rice. I think that next time, I may be brave and amp up the spice a little bit. It was delicious.

Alia ordered the chicken vidaloo very spicy and Ana ordered the butter chicken medium. We all really enjoyed our meals and time together. It was a great evening, and I can’t wait for my next Indian food adventure!
Is there a type of cuisine you’ve been wanting to try? Are you an adventurous eater?

I haven’t had Indian food in SO long. I wish the husband would crave it as much as I do!
I’m very adventurous when it comes to trying different types of foods and cuisines. Indian happens to be one of my favorites!
That Indian food looks too good to be true! I’m usually a good sport with trying new cuisines, but one that I’ve been DYING to get my hands on is Ethiopian! (My boyfriend does not share the same urgency, sadly
)
Yum–I LOVE Indian food!
I am new to Indian food, too, and bought a Groupon fairly recently so that I can try it out. I am super excited about it, now. Every dish looks great…I have no idea how I’ll decide!
